The Centrist
I would once have been considered a liberal or a lefty by all those of my acquaintance fully embracing the ideals of tolerance, balance, fairness, democracy and above all the fundamental paradigm of free speech!
Rights for all for protection and care for those in need when necessary as we do what we wish or have to, too become what we desire to be within our allotted time, expectantly aiding others and even in a small way our nations with our endeavours.
But in recent times one by one I have seen all these ideals fall, as tolerance is constantly being overtaken by narrow mindedness, balance has become replaced with incongruity, fairness exchanged for inequity, democracy is now only valued if its actions go a certain way and free speech is stifled more and more with every passing day.
Evermore I have begun to deplore the zeitgeist of our diurnal, hoping and praying that it will not be eternal. For no platforming those we disagree with leaves us closed to ideas and all but crucifying people for the mistakes of their past leaves me so close to tears. Getting people fired for holding different views is unjust and suppressing thinking so critical with cries of bigot, leaves debate in the dust.
Now we are vastly altering our history to fit narratives and agendas as of yet unknown and maligning those that crafted it for their imperfections as if they were meant to be flawless and not as we all are, people encumbered. Judging those of the past for not meeting the values of today is an idiotic view as our forebears weren’t perfect and neither are you.
I haven’t left the left; the left has left me and as the right holds no place for me, a centrist I shall be!
